MAMA BIRD BREASTFEEDING CLOTHES

We, Nordic people are relatively open to public breastfeeding, and mothers are allowed to breastfeed their children in public quite freely. There are also always mothers who do not find breastfeeding so comfortable themselves. Anna, a designer of Mama Bird breastfeeding clothes, also struggled with these things after having her daughter Leni .

Anna thought before the baby was born that "she can always breastfeed at home and keep a bottle with her outside the home." That's not how it went, though. Leni was hungry almost "all the time" and her breasts had to be "emptied" outside the home as well. The baby also ate for very long periods of time at a time, and thus breastfeeding became a “ubiquitous” thing quite by accident. Only the right clothes were missing for that job.

Anna has lived in Turku and Tallinn all the time since the child was born, and she traveled a lot on trains and ships alone just with her baby.

Anna longed for feminine, stylish and easy breastfeeding clothes - ones that could be worn anywhere in everyday life and at a party, and as a friend of sustainable development, longed for clothes that could be worn even after the breastfeeding phase. And gladly also clothes that would be gracious to the mother who gave birth who was not completely happy with all the shapes of her changed body.

When no suitable clothes could be found in the shops, Anna decided to design one herself.

Anna took it for granted that she wanted to produce clothes in Europe, as well as use high-quality materials. A suitable production site meeting Anna's standards was found in Estonia, right next to my own home along the trolley loop. Eco-certified cotton fabrics Make room in the Netherlands.

From there the thought started. First, protos were made after the protos until the perfect shirt was completed in December 2018.

The Mama Bird dress and shirt have handy hidden zippers on both sides on the right side of the breasts. The ‘ruffles’ of dresses and shirts offer the right protection for stylish breastfeeding for those who need protection - without covering the baby’s head. In this way, the child's eating goes smoothly and unobtrusively and important eye contact with the baby remains.

The mother is allowed to keep her back in an ergonomic position straight, and she doesn’t have to “hide bare skin” while sitting diagonally because the shirt has had to be pulled up over her chest.
